  1. Okay, off topic here, but this weekend XM 60s channel played the top song from each of the top 50 acts for the 1960s (according to Billboard). The top ten (No one-hit wonders here):
    10. Marvin Gaye
    9. James Brown
    8. Connie Francis
    7. Beach Boys
    6. Four Seasons
    5. Supremes
    4. Brenda Lee
    3. Ray Charles
    2. Elvis Presley
    1. Beatles

    1. Yep -- exactly matches the list from my Joel Whitburn Top Pop Singles book. I wouldn't have expected Bobby Rydell (#29) or Johnny Tillotson (#43) to be on the list. The vast majority of the 50 are represented by at least one song in my iTunes library.

  2. Both Rydell and Tillotson are on the list. Aretha is a #13, which was a bit of a surprise, as was the high ranking for both Connie Francis and Brenda Lee (I think I consider them more from the 50s).

    1. Brenda -- definitely 60s. Connie's hits were fairly evenly spread 1957-1962, but she hung around with lesser stuff for another several years. Similar trajectory to 77 Sunset Strip and Hawaiian Eye.
