As a fan of a wide variety of popular (and not-so-popular) music from the 1950s (and sometimes even earlier) up through the present, one of my bucket list projects for years has been to put together a list of my 100 favorite songs of all time. At some point I decided that, once I got around to figuring that out, I could put it out on a blog, for the infinitesimally small proportion of the Internet world that might be interested. So, here we are. While the Top 100 will be a major focus, I also plan to post on a variety of other musical (and occasionally non-musical) topics, in which you may or may not be interested. (If a particular posting doesn’t ring your bell, you’re only a few clicks away from a dancing cat video on YouTube.)

Favorite Musical Artists: Steely Dan


I pretty much summarized my feelings about Steely Dan a couple years back in my tribute to Walter Becker. I’ve never seen them live – after all, during their prime they abandoned the road for the studio – but if they ever migrated from Jiffy Lube Live back to Wolf Trap, I’d give it a shot, despite Becker’s absence.

    Saw them live just once, months before his passing.
    They put on a great show, and sounded great. Wonderful backup artists, of course. Walter even spoke (once).
    My Old School also my #1 fav, and listen to them often when running.
    Many fond memories listening from LVC years.

      One of their best lines came up during this morning's shuffle:

      No marigolds in the promised land
      There's a hole in the ground
      Where they used to grow

      Sometime I'll have to come up with a list of the bleakest Dan songs ...

      They're coming back to Wolf Trap this July! Got a ticket earlier this week, Row F. (If you have to ask how much, you can't afford it ...)
