As a fan of a wide variety of popular (and not-so-popular) music from the 1950s (and sometimes even earlier) up through the present, one of my bucket list projects for years has been to put together a list of my 100 favorite songs of all time. At some point I decided that, once I got around to figuring that out, I could put it out on a blog, for the infinitesimally small proportion of the Internet world that might be interested. So, here we are. While the Top 100 will be a major focus, I also plan to post on a variety of other musical (and occasionally non-musical) topics, in which you may or may not be interested. (If a particular posting doesn’t ring your bell, you’re only a few clicks away from a dancing cat video on YouTube.)

I’m sure that Connie is now in some version of heaven, along with Lesley Gore. Fortunately, Brenda Lee is still with us.

Favorite singles:

Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool

Who’s Sorry Now

Stupid Cupid

My Heart Has A Mind Of Its Own

  1. Speaking of the pre-Beatles era, check out this Top Ten from this week in 1963 - a very, very solid list of hits:
My 3-year older sister Fran (who soon after became a HUGE Beatle fan (she saw them in concert in '64 and '65) owned the #3, 4, and 5 45s, so I heard those A LOT.
If you check out the Billboard top 40 from the week of July 27, of that year, you'll notice an amazing number of songs that still resonate.
"So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde, and that's it hanging on the shed."

    1. My favorites are Hello Stranger and So Much in Love. But props also have to go to One Fine Day, with Carole King herself on piano.
