As a fan of a wide variety of popular (and not-so-popular) music from the 1950s (and sometimes even earlier) up through the present, one of my bucket list projects for years has been to put together a list of my 100 favorite songs of all time. At some point I decided that, once I got around to figuring that out, I could put it out on a blog, for the infinitesimally small proportion of the Internet world that might be interested. So, here we are. While the Top 100 will be a major focus, I also plan to post on a variety of other musical (and occasionally non-musical) topics, in which you may or may not be interested. (If a particular posting doesn’t ring your bell, you’re only a few clicks away from a dancing cat video on YouTube.)

  1. A great top 10 this week in 1968 (with one noteable exception):
1 LOVE IS BLUE –•– Paul Mauriat and His Orchestra
2 (Theme From) VALLEY OF THE DOLLS –•– Dionne Warwick
3 SPOOKY –•– The Classics IV
4 I WISH IT WOULD RAIN –•– The Temptations
5 (Sittin’ On) THE DOCK OF THE BAY –•– Otis Redding
    6 SIMON SAYS –•– 1910 Fruitgum Co.
7 GREEN TAMBOURINE –•– The Lemon Pipers
8 I WONDER WHAT SHE’S DOING TONITE –•– Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart
9 GOIN’ OUT OF MY HEAD/CAN’T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU –•– The Lettermen
10 NOBODY BUT ME –•– The Human Beinz

In addition, the classic question from songs on this week's top 40- "Who wrote it?" (something to be discussed in a darkened dorm room way past sleep time):
My Baby Must Be a Magician (Smokey Robinson)
    Different Drum (Mike Nesmith)
Itchycoo Park (Ronnie Lane and Steve Marriot)
    Bottle of Wine (Tom Paxton)
    Nobody But Me (Isley Bros.)

Finally, the questions that cannot possibly by answered also from songs from this week in 1968:
Susan, do you have to be confusin'?
Isn't it groovy in a daydream? (We Can Fly - Cowsills)
Does the question count when you feel good as good as I do? Do you? (We Love Us - Association -ugh)
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?

    1. I can certainly live without Simon Says.

I would have gotten Nesmith and Isleys (I have the song), and might have guessed Smokey. Paxton is a big surprise.

And how about Woman, woman, have you got cheating on your mind?

    2. And we all know her laughter cannot hide...
And from the same Warwick album (but not currently in the top 40), does anyone know the way to San Jose?
