As a fan of a wide variety of popular (and not-so-popular) music from the 1950s (and sometimes even earlier) up through the present, one of my bucket list projects for years has been to put together a list of my 100 favorite songs of all time. At some point I decided that, once I got around to figuring that out, I could put it out on a blog, for the infinitesimally small proportion of the Internet world that might be interested. So, here we are. While the Top 100 will be a major focus, I also plan to post on a variety of other musical (and occasionally non-musical) topics, in which you may or may not be interested. (If a particular posting doesn’t ring your bell, you’re only a few clicks away from a dancing cat video on YouTube.)

Favorite Best-Of Albums

Back when I started listing my favorite albums, I noted that best-of albums were not eligible, but that I might do a separate list of those later. That time has finally come.

Of course, there have to be some rules:

·        It’s limited to artists who didn’t appear on my previous favorite-album lists.

·        Box sets (herein defined as containing 3 or more CDs) are not eligible. Yes, everyone should own James Brown’s epic Star Time compilation, but it sort of seems like unfair competition.

·        Since one purpose of this effort is for me to figure out and list my favorite songs for various acts, artists for whom I have already done that will not appear again. (That means those who are among my favorite artists of all time, as well as a few others for whom I have listed my favorites in passing.)

I plan to do one album per month this year (in no particular order), but reserve the right to do more, if the spirit moves me ...
